The Teen Center opened it’s doors in 2015. The program provides students grades 9th-12 a space where they can do their homework, socialize with their peers, engage in leadership trainings /activities that allows for students to become more connected to their community.
Goals & Objectives
The Youth Community Action Center (YCAC) was formed in 1967 and expanded in 1970 with the merger of the Community House and Economic Opportunity Council. Today the center services over 1,000 individual youth annually throughout the Five Towns area with special interest on those youth most in need of services. YCAC utilizes a comprehensive approach including: Before and After School services, youth leadership skills training, Employment, Youth Advocacy, Crisis Intervention, Counseling, and Educational Support services. In order to meet the changing needs of the neighborhood, programs are managed and designed to target service needs of the community.
Leadership Development
Develops youth between the ages of 13-18 as leaders, enhance self-awareness and knowledge, empower them to organize, advocate and become positive role models to serve and improve their community.
Focus groups are held periodically to provide a forum for youth to solicit input and recommendations to improve services and programs to address the needs of young people in the target communities.
Youth Violence Prevention
Funded by the Nassau County Youth Board – is intended to reduce violence through community. Prevention/intervention strategies, including outreach, workshops, education, individual and group counseling for youth. Program services also include an after-school homework and enrichment center and summer services for middle school youth.

Youth Advocacy Program
The Youth Advocacy Program (YAP) serves youth up to 20 years of age and provides individual, family and group counseling, education and court advocacy for youth involved in the juvenile and criminal justice systems, crisis intervention, community service opportunities, referrals for emergency housing for runaway and homeless youth.

Youth Employment Services
Provide youth job readiness workshops, job placement services in both the public and private sectors. Job Development is facilitated in the local Five Towns area.

Before & After School Services (Pre-K-through 5th Grade)
An After-School drop program that provides children with a variety of activities such as homework help, arts and crafts, computer workshops, gym activities, games, music and special events. Programs are developed and coordinated with the Hewlett-Woodmere and Lawrence School Districts. Programs are located at various school sites.

Before & After School Services (Middle School)
Summer Camp Program (Pre-K-through 5th Grade)
A six-week, full day summer recreation program for children; with priority given to those who reside in the Lawrence School District. Programs include swimming, indoor/outdoor sports, recreation, dance, parks, field trips, special events, arts & crafts, trips, lunch and snacks.
Hours: Monday through Friday 9AM to 5PM
